Is it possible to travel to Venezuela safely?

Table of contents

Introduction

It depends; I recently visited Venezuela, and it was not as horrible as I had anticipated, but I was born there, so I speak Spanish and am familiar with our culture.

To be honest, if you don’t speak Spanish and want to make independent plans on a limited budget, it can be difficult. However, if you go to safe places and act confidently, you will be alright.

Fortunately, if money is not an issue, I strongly recommend hiring travel agencies, as they can offer you drivers and fantastic tours.

How to travel safely?

Even though this is what Venezuelans do, tourists should not dress nicely and carry their phones outside their pockets. You must go to places where there are a lot of people and act confidently.

It is critical that you do not carry too much cash on the street and that you carry little banknotes. It is a good idea to have a second cheap phone for mapping.

Problems that affect the tourism in Venezuela

Although the country’s overall situation has improved in the last two years, widespread resource shortages have persisted, with fuel being the most restrictive, particularly in rural areas with limited access.

A tourist who wishes to travel in remote areas of the country with his own vehicle must consider that in order to fill the tank, he must wait an entire day in a queue.

Of course, there are two other options. The first is to find nice people to help you, which is easy to do in Venezuela. Identifying a seller who charges more for a litre is the second choice.

Safest places to visit in Venezuela?

The most popular tourist destinations are also the safest:

  1. Los Roques, This archipelago consists of around 350 islands famous for its bird and marine species.
  2. Canaima, This national park contains one of the most tourist attractions in Venezuela, Angel’s Falls, the tallest falls in the world, the community that lives there is kind and safe
  3. Marguerita Island is a beautiful site to spend your vacation on and is safer than other areas in Venezuela, but you always need to be cautious.
  4. Mérida is typically a destination for mountain lovers seeking an escape from the hot temperatures. The people in this area are really kind, and it is a very safe environment.
  5. Any small town, usually a town or a small city, is a safe place to visit.

Is Caracas safe?

The Capital city is quieter than in previous years, but still dangerous for a foreigner, so if you want to go there, arrange a proper tour guide.

Some tips to travel in this country:

 – How much money to bring? In Venezuela, the official currency is the Bolivar, and its value changes every day due to the high rate of inflation. You must check the website: https://www.instagram.com/bcv.org.ve?igsh=MWE4cDFwaTcyY2hneg==

but you can pay in dollars all around the country and in pesos nearby the Colombian borders, so bring enough for your trip, but remember to locate them in different pockets and leave them in the hotel.

Withdrawing money from a bank is difficult,  may be easy to transfer to your hotel if they have Wise or an American account or if they accept Visa and Mastercards –

– Sim cards, if you have a phone with e-sim technology, you can try to purchase it online. Otherwise, you must go to a mobile centre like Tencel, Movistar, and Digitel with your passport. Note, there are no centres in the airport.

-Taxis, get numbers from shops or hotels for reliable ones, there is no Uber in Venezuela but some places (big cities) use Ridery
